Begin in San Francisco and drive to Santa Monica CA (estimated time: 5 1/2 hours)

If you can afford it, stay in Santa Monica near the Pier–it will help with the levity

DAY FOUR

Sightsee in Santa Monica–walk to Venice, hang out on the beach, ride the ferris wheel on the pier

DAY SIX

Begin in LA and drive to San Diego, CA (estimated time: 2 1/2 hours)

If you have the money, stay on the coast.  This is also a great time for an optional pop cultural interlude: Go to Legoland or Sea World.  Hang out at the beach or by the pool

DAY SEVEN

Visit Chicano Park and pack a picnic

Movie Night: finish Chicano!

DAY EIGHT

Begin in San Diego and drive to Bakersfield, CA (estimated time 4 1/2 hours)

In-flight feature film: Viva La Causa

DAY NINE

Visit the United Farmworkers  and National Chavez Center in Keene, 29700 Woodford-Tehachapi Road (estimated time: 30 minutes)

DAYS TEN and ELEVEN

Begin in Bakersfield and drive to Visalia CA (estimated time 1/12 hours)

Book lodging well in advance as this is the town right outside Sequoia National Park

Optional natural wonders interlude–Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

If you are really road warriors, consider adding on Yosemite to your trip
